Training diary VII

Now we have arrived at the real seriousness, when Boyo has to cope with being alone – and believe in hell, he does that. Exceptionally, in addition. I am so proud of my little prince, which is actually super talented. It is still required a certain routine, and he is a little squeaky before I leave and just when I unlock and open the front door. But otherwise – however good. ♥

He doesn't like really being trapped in the bedroom – he likes to slip past and rush out again. We struggle with it – and we will practice it now during Easter, when I don't need to go. Had thought we would start already earlier in the week, but I seem to belong to those who get very tired from the radiation (sleep-tired) so I actually haven't been able to.

But apart from that he is a little squeaky there before I go, he is really super talented. I ran into a neighbor the other day, and asked if he heard Boyo barking at anything, but apparently he has been dead quiet. So I'm super proud of my big one, Muppet dog. ♥

And when I comes home, he is also dead quiet and completely calm. I'm not letting him out all at once, but he has to wait while I go to bed, cuddling with the cat, turns on the kettle and so on, before I go in and get him. And he has also learned that it is not a hysterical attitude that pays off, but he keeps all his paws on the floor (he can be quite jumpy otherwise) until he gets candy – and then he rushes out. 😀

One thing that the nice thing about this is that I'll be able to hang out with one of my best friends the way we like to hang out – by going on shopping trips. When Boyo was small, we had a day dog who wasn't alone trained either, so it kind of didn't work out then. During Covid, I didn't want to go away and risk getting infected, and I've also had Boyo who couldn't handle being alone.

But now when he's this good, so it will work. It means I can actually go off and do things without him. Now I would rather have him with as much as possible, but if it doesn't work, it's absolutely fantastic to be able to go away on your own.

So I admit me a little ridiculously proud, both over myself and Boyo. Myself because I (finally!) found a way that worked for Boyo, and him for actually being able to do it. I also think it's great for him to learn to be himself. ♥
