With and without dog

Having a dog is a lifestyle. So it is. I guess most people who have dogs agree with me on that. Having a dog means that you have to go out several times a day. Not having a dog means that you can choose again, and in that case when you feel like going out.

After Ella was this convenience thing something i've been worried about. Unfortunately, I've gotten into that comfort zone and think it's quite nice not to have to go out right before I go to bed, and just a moment after I stepped up, and so on in between.

This bodes well not good for the first time with Boyo. 😀 Then I will learn to run up and down these stairs an unknown number of times (many!) times per day.

Thank goodness I have a ten-year habit of going out with the dog regardless of the weather, so it will soon feel as natural as it did before.

The walks are however, not the only thing that makes the difference between being with or without a dog. For me it is quite big, this thing about having a dog. It is to have in relation. To not having a dog is that not ha a very close and intimate relationship.

And I enjoy it better with dog than without. I like myself when I live with a dog. The whole of me becomes, for myself, clearer and more real, as strange as it may sound.

It is also a hell of a difference to having a dog yourself, and taking care of other people's dogs. I've written about it before, and here we go again. I like having dogs here during the day, but they are not and never will be mine. The relationship that arises is something completely different than between me and min dog.

Then I am only human, so I'm super flattered when Lilo's mum tells me that Lilo wants to turn off and go to my house when they're out for a walk, and when, after her hysterical outbursts of joy, when her mother comes to pick her up, walks back into the hall and lays down on my feet as if to say that “I belong here”.

So how much I like to have my day dogs here, so I will like having my own dog here even more.

And the best with it is that it just is, I think, three weeks left until it's time to pick up my Boyo. Time will fly by, considering how hectic it will be here until then. This Friday, Egon is coming, and the weekend before I leave, Mysak will be here.

But soon, so. Soon Boyo will be home. ♥
