Resistance in dog

This is certainly not news, but it's something I've realized a little extra in recent weeks. Probably because I realize more and more that my little prince is a rather soft and unresisting dog. There are probably those who would disagree with me, but that is my very own opinion of him.

Ella raised me to really appreciate a dog that has a hell of a resistance in him. I've learned to need it, and since I belong to the group of people with very good self-awareness, I have a pretty good idea of why. Very briefly, without going into long explanations, I can say that “it shouldn't be easy to love”.

I have no idea of what Boyo will be like as an adult. After all, he is only five months old (today, actually!). What right now is some puppy doggedness and total absence of impulse control, will probably be something completely different eventually. Apart from all that I'm used to it being a certain way (energy, intensity, driv, hard psyche and so on) I have no idea which sides of Boyo will be challenges for me.

What I, however can say is that I appreciate to a very high degree arguing and fighting with my dog. I'm fully aware that sounds completely insane, but I like that my dog has his own opinions and expresses them. I think it's hilarious to have to have loud discussions with my dog about how things should work. I love that there is a lot of resistance in my dog, so I have a bit to bite into.

We'll see how this is expressed in Boyo.

Because it is such an extremely big difference between Boyo and Ella, there is a certain probability that I will eventually – when Boyo is old enough to help raise, will get me another dog.

I feel myself a little mean when I say that, but even Boyo and Lilo together do not rise to the resistance that existed in Ella. And I miss it.

Boyo is one incredibly cozy and good dog. He is so incredibly good that it is almost a pity for him, and I adore him for it. He is soft, friendly, loving and super cozy in every way possible. I could not have gotten a nicer puppy – for real.

But while he on the one hand is so super nice, super good and super cosy, on the other hand, he is not very exciting. 😀 He's funny in his own ways, that's him. He's silly too. He will probably also be tough as an adult – in its own way. But exciting is not the word I would use to describe him. And he also doesn't have that resistance I appreciate so immensely.

There is no one the tank, this thing about getting another dog. I like having several dogs. It's incredibly nice to have Lilo here, and if I had a bigger apartment, I could easily imagine having another dog here during the day. And I believe, eventually, when Boyo gets older, that he will be a great play uncle and foster puppy. But I have tried having a young dog and a puppy at the same time, and I don't change that – so another dog will have to wait at least another couple of years.

And then I will be sure to get me a dog that has that resistance. It is certainly enjoyable, in a way, not having to fight with your dog all the time. But for some reason I miss it very much. There are several breeds that are interesting for what I want to get out of a dog.

We'll see what it can conceivably be. But after some other bigger ones, expensive things I need and want, maybe it's time to start saving money so I can choose what I want when it's time to get the next dog.
